HIV/Syphilis Rapid Testing ($35)
We are now offering rapid HIV testing with results in under 1 minute. Since we are NOT a funded government clinic, we are unable to offer these free of charge, so there will be a $35 fee to have the test, if desired. If you wish to book an appointment ONLY for Rapid HIV/Syphilis Testing, please book a "Rapid HIV/Syphilis Testing" appointment; if you wish to have testing for other infections as well, please choose "Routine STI Testing" appointment.

With more than 99% sensitivity and 99% specificity for IgM and IgG antibodies, we use Health Canada approved INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2/VDRL Antibody Tests, which use a finger prick of blood and you will have results ready in 1 minute.

HPV Screening (formerly Pap Smear Testing)
We offer HPV Screening (formerly Pap smears) appointments at Safer Six!
A HPV screening test is a simple screening test for that can detect cell changes in the cervix that may lead to cervical cancer before you feel any symptoms.

Currently, the Ontario Cervical Screening Program recommends that individuals that are or have been sexually active have a Pap test every 5 years starting at age 25.

This includes if you are:
- Cis woman
- Trans-masculine individual with a cervix
- Non-binary individual with a cervix
- Anyone with a cervix
- If you have ever had sexual contact with another person
- If you do not have symptoms, like different bleeding or discharge (clear or yellow fluid) from the vagina (genital opening), and
- If you are due for cervical screening according to the Ontario Cervical Screening Program’s recommendations

Eligible people need to get cervical screening even if they:
-
feel healthy and have no symptoms
-
are no longer sexually active
-
have only had 1 sexual partner
-
are in a same-sex relationship
-
have been through menopause
-
have no family history of cervical cancer
-
have received the HPV vaccine

You do not need to start cervical screening before age 25, even if you have had sexual contact. You do not need to get cervical screening if you have never had sexual contact with another person.

The cervical screening test checks for types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that can sometimes cause cervical cancer. It also checks for cell changes in the cervix caused by these types of HPV.

The cervical screening test:
-
Has replaced the Pap test because it is better at helping prevent cervical cancer. The Pap test only checked for cell changes in the cervix, but the cervical screening test can check for cancer-causing types of HPV and cell changes.
-
Does not check for:
-
other types of HPV that do not cause cancer
-
other cancers in the reproductive organs, such as ovarian cancer
-
sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea or HIV/AIDS
-
-
Feels like getting a Pap test. A doctor, nurse practitioner or midwife will use a small, soft brush to take cells from the cervix so the lab can test the cells for types of HPV and cell changes. The person doing the test can try to make the test as comfortable as possible.
You will get the results of your cervical screening test by mail. The person who did your test will also get a copy of your results and can answer any questions you may have. They can talk with you about next steps.
